24 Hour Fitness Teams Up with The V Foundation to Raise Money and Awareness for Cancer Research

Fitness Leader to Host More Than 200 Free Throw Contests Nationwide on March 5

24 Hour Fitness announced today plans to support the first annual V Throw™ contest, a national free throw competition and fundraiser benefitting The V Foundation® for Cancer Research. On March 5, 24 Hour Fitness will host the V Throw at more than 200 of its clubs across the country. Participants will compete for prizes while raising money and generating awareness for cancer research. 24 Hour Fitness® members and guests can learn more about local V Throw events and register online at www.vthrow.com.

“We look forward to helping The V Foundation generate funding for cancer research by opening our basketball courts to V Throw competitors on March 5,” said Carl Liebert III, CEO at 24 Hour Fitness and board member of The V Foundation. “I’m looking forward to hitting the hardwood myself, sinking a few baskets and joining our members in taking a stand in the fight against cancer. We anticipate a truly inspiring day!”

The V Throw, which will run from Feb. 19 through March 26 at locations across the country, features 12 divisions for both women and men, ages 15 and older. Participants will shoot free throws to compete for prizes. For the competition’s most skilled athletes, the V Throw closes with the crowning of a national champion for each division. There is even an on-line competition for those who can’t participate in person. All net proceeds will benefit The V Foundation for Cancer Research.

“We truly appreciate the generous support of 24 Hour Fitness as we work to make The V Throw a fun and meaningful experience for all participants,” said Nick Valvano, CEO of The V Foundation. “We are grateful for the commitment from companies like 24 Hour Fitness coming together for such an important cause.”

About the V Foundation

Since 1993, The Foundation has raised more than $100 million to fund cancer research grants nationwide. It awards 100 percent of all direct cash donations and net proceeds of events directly to cancer research and related programs. Administrative and fundraising expenses are paid by the Foundation’s endowment. The Foundation awards grants through a competitive awards process strictly supervised by a Scientific Advisory Board.
