In Memory of 9/11
The International Association of Fire Fighters from local 1311 in Baltimore, Maryland spent the day on the golf course to pay tribute to the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. The Tenth Annual 9/11 Golf Tournament was founded by 1311 members Pete Latreille, Dave Miller and Dale Winter. In 2008, they felt like they could do more for the community so they decided to support The V Foundation in the fight against cancer.
Cancer had affected many in their department and nationwide, so they decided to raise money for cancer research and donate in honor of those lost on 9/11. The golf tournament has raised $54,000 to date for The V Foundation. Nick Valvano attended the event last year and accepted a $16,500 check in the name of those brave fire fighters. “It was a very special day that was filled with camaraderie, friendship and genuine affection displayed by all who attended. I know my brother, Jim, would be so proud to have his name associated with this activity that honors the courageous New York Fighters,” said Valvano.
