NY Basketball Dinner Is A Winner
Guests filed in through the glass doors on the Chelsea Pier to enjoy the incredible view of theHudsonand a night filled with laughs and good friends at the 17th New York Basketball Dinner Auction. Guests watched sailboats and cruise ships pass by with the view ofNew Jerseyin the background during cocktail hour. Before the program began, everyone had the chance to mingle with the coaches, Buzz WillIams, Jay Wright, Frank Haith, Lorenzo Romar, Gary Blair and Geno Auriemma.
The program kicked off with hosts Derek Whittenburg and Bill Raftery sharing stories of Jimmy Valvano and introducing the six coaches of the basketball classic. Derek Whittenburg, who played on coach Valvano’s 1983 championship team, reminisced on his last minute ally-oop moment; guests laughed along while he joked that when he threw it up it was clearly an assist, not a shot. ESPN personality, Bill Raftery, hosted the first ever New York Basketball Dinner, and it was great to have him back for the 17th year of the event- he discussed how much the event had changed and grown into such a special night. The coaches told stories about one another, coach Valvano and their upcoming seasons. The event was one for the record books- full of special moments and laughs.
