Classic Dinner Wrap Up…Bring on the games!
What a night it was! The V Foundation is proud to announce that 18th Annual Jimmy V Classic Dinner and Gala was a great success! On October 10, 375 attendees gathered at the scenic Pier Sixty on New York City’s Hudson River. Their hosts for the evening were Sportswriter and ESPN reporter Jeremy Schaap along with Dereck Whittenburg, who played for Jim Valvano’s 1983 NCAA Championship team at N.C. State.
In attendance were the coaches of the teams whose teams will compete in this year’s V Classic Tournament: Georgetown’s John Thompson III, UConn’s Kevin Ollie, N.C. State’s Mark Gottfried, Texas’s Rick Barnes and the coaches whose teams will compete in the women’s classic, Maryland’s Brenda Frese and UConn’s Geno Auriemma. Along with seeing some of their favorite coaches, guests were able to participate in a silent auction, whose items included a Diana Taurasi autograph and sports packages including fan experiences with the New York Knicks and New York Jets.
A highlight of the evening was when Dr. David Prezant, Chief Medical Officer at the Office of Medical Affairs for the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY), Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano and V Foundation President Emeritus Nick Valvano asked guests to Stand Together with The V Foundation to help fund a $1 million grant to study cancers experienced by the First Responders on September 11th, 2001.
