Dr. Walter Stadler at The University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center received a V Foundation Designated Grant in 2004 and is making great strides in the treatment of systemic prostate cancer. Stadler is the Fred C. Buffett Professor of Medicine and Surgery and Director of the Genitourinary Program at Chicago’s Cancer Center. He said prostate cancer that has spread is now considered a chronic disease and can be managed for years and even decades.
Under Stadler’s leadership, the prostate cancer program at Chicago has become one of distinction because of the many resources it has access to in treating the disease’s full spectrum. The program also uses an integrated approach to incorporate the ideas and knowledge of many scientists and doctors. The prostate cancer program at Chicago currently has 25 active prostate cancer clinical trials.
