Dick Vitale Gala Recap…Let the countdown to next year begin!

Dick Vitale Gala Recap 2013  More than 800 people and 80 celebrities crowded the Ritz-Carlton for the Eighth Annual Dick Vitale Gala that raised more than $1.7 million for pediatric cancer research. With the addition of this year’s total, the gala has officially raised over $10 million since its inception.

“It is hard to believe that Jimmy V. passed away 20 years ago,” ESPN College Basketball Analyst Dick Vitale wrote after the event. “The legacy he created to battle cancer was on the minds of all in that room on Friday night. Jimmy said he needed his friends to gather and fight, and that is exactly what they did.”

In addition to raising funds for pediatric cancer research, the event took time to honor Kansas basketball coach Bill Self, former Florida State University and Hall of Fame football coach Bobby Bowden and former University of Connecticut and Hall of Fame basketball coach Jim Calhoun for their commitment and contributions to the sports world.

“Dick Vitale is a major force in the fight against cancer,” said Susan Braun, Chief Executive Officer of The V Foundation. “He and his remarkable team have held yet another extraordinary event, bringing people together to help children with cancer by funding critical research. The V Foundation is fortunate to have such a great partner in our quest to end cancer.”

The Ninth Annual Dick Vitale Gala will be held on May 16, 2014 at the Ritz Carlton Sarasota. Notre Dame men’s basketball coach Mike Brey, Indiana basketball coach Tom Crean and Alabama football coach Nick Saban are to be honored.
