ESPN Radio’s “Don’t Give Up ESPYS V Foundation Auction” Raises More Than $781,000

More than $1.9 Million Raised When Combined with ESPY Celebrity Golf Classic

The ninth annual “Don’t Give Up ESPYS V Foundation Auction” raised $781,258 for The V Foundation for Cancer Research – surpassing last year’s totals. To date, the event has raised more than $6,500,000 in its nine years. The annual event offered more than 200 items and experiences through an online auction from July 7- 17, additionally, ESPN Radio hosted a live auction across ESPN Radio’s national shows on July 17 from 6 a.m. – 12 a.m. ET.

When combined with the ESPY Celebrity Golf Classic (which was held July 16), more than $1.9 million was raised for cancer research during ESPYs Week.

“The ESPN Radiothon is a fun-filled and lively way to raise awareness about cancer and to raise funds to defeat it,” said Susan Braun, CEO of The V Foundation. “This year, our wonderful colleagues at ESPN raised more than $781,000, all of which directly comes to The V Foundation. Each donation funds cutting edge cancer research aimed at putting an end to cancer. Our unending thanks to everyone at ESPN Radio and to each listener who pledged, who jumped in to help.  YOU made this happen!”

In celebrating on The V Foundation’s 20th anniversary, ESPN created a 3 for V Sweepstakes which included a Monday Night Football game along with behind-the-scenes experience and tour, a backstage experience during a College GameDay game, and an in-studio experience with Mike & Mike, complete with a VIP tour of the ESPN studios in Bristol, CT. A $20 donation provided an entry to win.

Donations were also a big part of the auction’s success, as listeners responded to show hosts’ on-air invitation that “every donation helps no matter what the size.”
