Jimmy V Week Kicking Off With #GivingTuesday
Well, that’s what we’ll be doing on December 3 at Jimmy V’s Osteria & Bar. We are kicking off Jimmy V Week by participating in #GivingTuesday and throwing our own “Kick-Off” party to promote awareness and raise money to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
#GivingTuesday is a worldwide campaign that encourages charitable giving supporting nonprofit organizations. In conjunction with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Tuesday December 3rd is a day where we can all give back and support nonprofit organizations to start the holiday season. In 2012, #GivingTuesday had 2,500 partners to participate from all 50 states, reaching a milestone trend of over 50 million people on Twitter who spread the word about the campaign. Now that is something to be proud of! The V Foundation is elated to be a part of something that is impacting a large number of people, not just nationally, but on an international level.
We are thrilled to announce the details of our “Kick-off” party at Jimmy V’s. They have come up with a tasty concoction, which will include citrus vodka, Peychauds bitters, lemon juice, elderflower liquor, champagne, and an orange slice – uniquely named “Give-tini.” Proceeds from this festive cocktail will go straight to The V Foundation. Jimmy V’s will be tuning into ESPN’s airing of Jim Valvano’s famous speech.
In addition to throwing our own party, we are inviting community event planners and our Delta Chi chapters across the United States to throw their own “Kick-Off” parties. We have a specialized Event Registration Form and a How to Host Your Own Kick-off Party guide on our website. This campaign can show the world how we can do much more with our wallets than just consume. With the help of our extended community, our goal is to kick cancer’s butt this giving season.
We hope that by encouraging our friends to participate, it will spark a fire in everyone to give back during the holiday season for that family member, neighbor, or best friend who needs us to take a stand.
