Moving Towards a Cure
The moving process is overwhelming and chaotic—for anyone. In fact, I really don’t think it’s too much to suggest that it feels somewhat like drowning in one huge, stressful sea of cardboard and packing peanuts. For all you beginner swimmers out there–Good news! There happens to be a group of men here to save the day and many more lives than you realize too.
These special heroes are the brothers of Delta Chi Fraternity at the University of Maryland. These men participate in “Delta Chi Movers”, a program that moves people free of charge. In return, the brothers only request a donation to The V Foundation for Cancer Research.
Since 2008, the UMD Delta Chi chapter has raised more than $28,000 for cancer research. According to Jonathan Konsky, a UMD Delta Chi brother, the mission of The V Foundation and Jim Valvano has become an integral part of their chapter and its work.
“The idea behind The V Foundation is amazing, and the story of Jimmy Valvano is even better,” says Konsky. “When we raise money, it creates a sense of euphoria throughout the whole chapter, because we know how good of a cause it is and that the money we raise could go a long way.”
The brothers of Delta Chi Fraternity have persevered in the fight to cure cancer, providing invaluable support to The V Foundation. Their hard work has saved countless lives affected by cancer and will continue to do so in the future.
“Just like Jimmy V told us, ‘Don’t Give Up…Don’t Ever Give Up ®’,” says Konsky. “That’s exactly what we’re going to do. Delta Chi Movers will never stop and we, the brothers of Delta Chi, are proud to raise money for this amazing foundation.”
