The V Foundation partners with Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh Marathon

The V Foundation for Cancer Research is proud to announce its affiliation as the official charity beneficiary of Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh Marathon & ½ Marathon Presented by WRAL . The race will take place April 13, 2014. The announcement coincides with The V Foundation’s focus on new signature events in the Triangle.  The V Foundation looks forward to the opportunity to pass Jim Valvano’s message and legacy to a broader base of supporters through new initiatives.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh Marathon & ½ Marathon Presented by WRAL announcement occurs as The V Foundation redirects local fundraising efforts towards new signature events while thanking their partners at the Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic as they pass the baton to The V Foundation after 20 successful years.   During its 20 years, The Golf Classic raised more than $13.5 million for cancer research through the relentless efforts of staff and volunteers.

“We are delighted that cancer research, funded by The V Foundation, will be the charitable focus of the first Rock ‘n’ Roll event in Raleigh,” said Susan Braun, CEO of The V Foundation for Cancer Research. “So many people who run competitively, for their health, or just for fun find great meaning in helping us fight cancer.   This is a great opportunity for people of all ages from the Triangle communities to come together, get fit, have fun and support The V Foundation.”

TeamV_blackThe V Foundation will be represented by a group of Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh participants, called Team V, training for and running in the full and half marathon, embodying Jim Valvano’s message, “Don’t Give Up… Don’t Ever Give Up!” ®.  Team V membership is available with a variety of donation levels.  The Team V members registered at the Champion level will raise a minimum of $500 and receive a Team V training shirt, free registration into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh Marathon & ½ Marathon Presented by WRAL, a full or half marathon training schedule, pre-race pasta party ticket, post-race hospitality tent access and more.  Members registered for the All-Star and MVP levels will receive additional premium incentives, including access to the Team V Coaching Program.  The All-Star and MVP levels have $750 and $1,000 minimum donations, respectively.

“While events like the Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic generated tremendous funding and exposure for The V Foundation, we are strategically developing new platforms that allow us to engage a more diverse group of supporters and partners,” said Nick Valvano, President Emeritus of The V Foundation.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series started as a single race in 1998 and is now the ‘World’s Largest Running Series’ featuring a global tour schedule of 31 events in 2014.  Over the 16-year history of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series, charity participants have raised more than $298 million for a variety of causes.  Live bands and cheer teams mark each mile of the race course, creating an entertaining experience unlike any other.

“We are proud to carry Jim Valvano’s message forward by supporting The V Foundation and Team V.  Their participation will create an inspiring presence at our inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh Marathon & ½ Marathon Presented by WRAL and the proceeds raised will make an impact against a disease that affects us all,” said Dave Hussa, vice president of charity partnerships at Competitor Group.  “Running for a cause is the best motivation and we encourage all of our runners to consider joining Team V.”
