A great North Carolina Tradition
The tradition was started when Applebee’s became a partner of The V Foundation. Each spring during March, the stores would ask customers for donations and those customers could put their name on a basketball to be displayed in store. Yet, that was just the beginning.
Over the years the promotion has turned into something bigger. There have been golf tournaments, car washes, bake sales and more. The Foundation has heard of managers riding bikes for twelve hours, waiters camping out on the roof and even “Meet Your Superheroes Day” in Winston Salem. This promotion has become more than asking for people to donate for a basketball.
Randy Sexton’s area includes the Triad- from Burlington to Winston Salem to Salisbury. Sexton has been recognized by his corporate office numerous times for leading his area to be number one in donations. “It’s an amazing cause and we like to give everyone the opportunity to participate,” Sexton said, “Everyone has been touched by cancer.”
If you are looking for a place in North Carolina to watch the basketball games that are coming up, I have a great suggestion for you. Head to your local Applebee’s and ask them to tell you some of the amazing things they are doing to fight cancer.
