Love Like Lacey
On April 8th, eight-year-old Lacey Holsworth lost her courageous two-year battle with cancer, but her memory will stay with us for a lifetime.
Lacey touched the hearts of so many, especially that of Michigan State University basketball player Adreian Payne. The pair forged an unbreakable bond when Payne visited Lacey in the hospital while she was seeking treatment for neuroblastoma over two years ago. Ever since then, Lacey has been on the sidelines cheering on her friend with a smile. Lacey even helped Payne cut down the net after Michigan State won the Big Ten tournament title. On May 18, 2013, Lacey accompanied Payne to the Dick Vitale Gala as a special guest.
Dick Vitale has started a Lacey Holsworth Research Grant to help raise funds for pediatric cancer research. Vitale has pledged to raise $250,000 in her honor and present the check at the 9th Annual Dick Vitale Gala on May 16, 2014.
Lacey Joy Elizabeth Holsworth’s Life Celebration will be held on April 17at 6:30 p.m. at the Jack Breslin Student Event Center at Michigan State University. Lacey’s family requests that everyone come wearing bright colors and smiles–tiara’s optional.
The Michigan State University community has taken to Twitter to honor and remember Lacey, encouraging others to #LoveLikeLacey.
