Philadelphia Friends of V to Host 11th Annual Jimmy V CYO Classic
What started out as a letter of support to The V Foundation for Cancer Research has evolved into a full-fledged community effort. In 2004, a group of players, friends, coaches and parents from Lower Makefield, Pennsylvania formed the Philadelphia Friends of V and started a community tradition.
The group’s signature event, the Jimmy V Catholic Youth Organization Classic, is in its 11th year and will take place Feb. 20th-23rd. The 4-day basketball event features games, a silent auction, a DJ and concessions with more than 4,000 people estimated to attend. The highlights of the event are guest speakers who talk about their cancer experiences and the presenting of the Spirit of Jimmy V Awards. The Spirit of Jimmy V Award recipients are recognized for showing the most spirit toward their cause and are nominated by their team members.
Over the past 11 years, the group has raised more than $200,000 for cancer research and gained widespread community and national recognition.
The Philadelphia Friends of V will host other fundraising events in support of The V Foundation in 2014 such as their Score Against Cancer program, Jimmy V Home Run Derby, Jimmy V Restaurant & Retail Program, PAA Hits for the Cure and the Yardley Country Club Golf Event.
This organization strives to educate their community about the need for cancer research, and we cannot thank them enough for their generous efforts! Way to go!
