Tennis Stars and Esurance Rally in New York City for The V Foundation

Tweets, Tennis Stars Help Raise $100,000 in the Fight Against Cancer

The V Foundation for Cancer Research, one of the nation’s leading cancer research funding organizations, is proud to announce Esurance raised $100,000 for cancer research through its #RallyForACause campaign in just one day.  As featured on Good Morning America, tennis stars rallied on a state-of-the-art tennis court built in Times Square on August 21, 2014, to help raise funds and awareness.  Esurance also donated to The V Foundation for each tweet tagged with @Esurance and a hashtag #RallyForACause.

“Esurance and the US Open—what a great team,” said Susan Braun, CEO of The V Foundation.  “The V Foundation is grateful to everyone who took part in #RallyForACause to support our work, funding life-saving cancer research.”

The event, hosted by former Men’s Doubles French Open champion Murphy Jensen, kicked off with No. 1 Emirates ATP Doubles Team and twin brothers Bob and Mike Bryan rallying with morning personalities Lara Spencer and Robin Roberts live on Good Morning America.  Former Australian Open singles champion and current ATP Top 20 player Victoria Azarenka was on-site, and she coached throughout the rallying session.  Other participating tennis stars included Taylor Townsend, Jack Sock, as well as 7-time singles and 9-time men’s doubles Grand Slam champion John McEnroe.

Tennis stars were challenged to hit a series of targets over the course of ten minutes.  Esurance, a sponsor of the U.S. Open Tennis Championships, donated $10 on behalf of anyone who visited the tennis court and checked in with an Esurance rep on-site, as well as $500 for every volley the celebrities accurately hit on target.  In addition to the Times Square event, Esurance included a social media element to the campaign, donating $1 per tweet mentioning  #RallyForACause.  As Roberts mentioned on-air, 100% of cash donations will benefit cancer research through The V Foundation.

The V Foundation regularly draws notable tennis professionals to join the fight against cancer with its annual Racquets for Research event.  Registration is now open for this year’s two-day event, which will be held on September 12-13, 2014, at the North Hills Racquet Club in Raleigh, N.C.  Tennis celebrities scheduled to attend include former men’s and mixed doubles champion Don Johnson, former Australian Open champion Johan Kriek, former Australian Open and Wimbledon doubles champion Jared Palmer, two-time Olympian Brenda Schultz-McCarthy and former Top 20 ATP player Tim Wilkison.  The event will offer tennis players and fans the opportunity to play with and learn from ATP and WTA world-class playing professionals.
