Who doesn’t love mail?
The voice behind phone at The V Foundation – Mary Umstead – wrote this great piece for a new year. Happy New Year!
December is an exciting time at The V Foundation. The phone is constantly jingling, our friends at ESPN put on one heck of a show, and we get really, really excited about opening the mail.
That’s not to say that we aren’t also happy about website donations, or contributions over the phone. But the mail is where we see the personality. The mail is where we read the stories. The mail is how we keep it real.
Donations come in all shapes and sizes, and so do the stories that go with them. I am constantly amazed at our donors’ creativity — and their generosity, and their unshakable belief in what we do.
“These are coins I collected off the ground and in parking lots throughout the year.” Don’t Give Up. This donation is in memory of my son, who died of cancer in 2008, Don’t Give Up. This is in honor of my wife, who has been cancer-free for 2 years! Don’t Give Up! Our senior class worked all year to raise this money for The V Foundation. Don’t Ever Give Up. I set out a tip jar at my craft booth each month – here are the proceeds. Don’t Ever Give Up. Instead of gifts for her birthday, my eight year old daughter asked for donations to The V Foundation. – Wow! Don’t ever give up.
To the people who send us donations in any form, I say thank you.
To the people who say “I wish I could send you more,” I want to say: your contribution of any size matters — more than you know.
To the people who say “Please find the cures,” I want to say – with your help, we will.
But most of all – to the people who say, “Don’t Give Up,” I want to say – we won’t.
