The Apple Gold Group, a Raleigh-based franchisee of Applebee’s Grill and Bar, is proud to share the results of their ninth annual March Hoops fundraiser in support of The V Foundation for Cancer Research. The fundraiser took place during men’s and women’s conference and NCAA Basketball Tournaments spanning from March 5 to April 7. Apple Gold Group was able to raise over $164,000 during this fundraiser. One hundred percent of the proceeds donated to The V Foundation will benefit a grant established in Apple Gold Group’s name to continue the funding of peer-reviewed pediatric cancer research projects at Duke Children’s Hospital in Durham, North Carolina.

Guests who dined at one of the 70 participating Applebee’s locations throughout North Carolina, Kentucky and Indiana had the opportunity to donate $1 or more to The V Foundation for Cancer Research. For each dollar donated, guests received a paper basketball to personalize and hang in the restaurant. In the spirit of the tournament season, guests were given the option to choose from several different paper basketballs that represented Duke, UNC, NC State and other local universities to support their team.

“We are always honored to host the March Hoops fundraiser. It’s a fun way for our team members, neighbors and communities to partner in the pursuit of a cure for a disease that touches all of our lives,” said Michael Olander, President and CEO of Apple Gold Group. “We are proud of our nine year partnership with The V Foundation, and we want to thank everyone in our community who came out during the tournament season.”

In 2014, the March Hoops fundraiser pushed the Apple Gold Group past the $1 million mark in total funds raised in support of The V Foundation’s fight against cancer. This year, the franchisee hopes to exceed their 2015 fundraising goal for the Foundation with the continued help and generosity of the community and employees.

“What an amazing accomplishment! Our friends at Apple Gold and the generous Applebee’s guests have come together again to help us fight cancer in children,” said Susan Braun, CEO of The V Foundation for Cancer Research. “We can’t do this without the help of each person who contributed!”
