V Foundation Announces 10th Annual Dick Vitale Gala
The V Foundation for Cancer Research, one of the nation’s leading cancer research funding organizations, is excited to announce the 10th Annual Dick Vitale Gala. ESPN Hall of Fame Sportscaster and passionate cancer research advocate Dick Vitale will host the event, which will take place on Friday, May 15, 2015 at the Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota, Florida. As sports and entertainment celebrities gather to raise funds for pediatric cancer research, the Gala will honor three coaching greats at this year’s event: Syracuse University men’s basketball coach Jim Boeheim, Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Lovie Smith and Florida State University football coach Jimbo Fisher. In its nine-year history, the Dick Vitale Gala has raised more than $12 million for pediatric cancer research.
“We need money for pediatric research to help youngsters battling cancer,” said Vitale. “There is nothing more tragic than watching a mom and dad put a child to rest. Until my last breath, I’ll help young people facing this challenge.”
What started as a small gathering at Dick and his wife Lorraine’s home, the Dick Vitale Gala continues to draws notable celebrities and hundreds of supporters to Sarasota each year. This year’s event will be headlined by three noteworthy sports individuals being recognized for their coaching successes and commitment to the fight against cancer. Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame member and Syracuse men’s basketball coach Jim Boeheim has led the Orange to multiple 20-win seasons. Entering his second season as the National Football League’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach, Lovie Smith will also be honored at the event. After leading Florida State football to its third national championship in 2013, Jimbo Fisher guided the 2014 squad to a third consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference championship and berth in the inaugural College Football Playoffs.
“Pediatric cancer research has no better ally than Dick Vitale,” said Susan Braun, CEO of The V Foundation. “The energy and enthusiasm that he brings to fundraising for this cause is inspiring. We are looking forward to another amazing evening in support of children’s cancer research.”
The Dick Vitale Gala is one of The V Foundation’s annual signature events. This year’s event will begin with a “Celebrity Meet & Greet Private Pre-Party” at 6:30 p.m. and include entertainment from contemporary jazz-rock music group Blood, Sweat and Tears.
