Bo Ryan, Robin Roberts and Urban Meyer to be Honored at 11th Annual Dick Vitale Gala

The V Foundation for Cancer Research, one of the nation’s leading cancer research funding organizations, and ESPN Hall of Fame Sportscaster Dick Vitale are pleased to announce details of the 11th Annual Dick Vitale Gala, which will be held on May 13, 2016, at The Ritz-Carlton Sarasota, Florida.  Net proceeds of the event will be awarded to pediatric cancer research.  Former University of Wisconsin Head Men’s Basketball Coach Bo Ryan, ABC’s “Good Morning America” co-anchor Robin Roberts and Ohio State University Head Football Coach Urban Meyer will be honored at this year’s event.  In its 10-year history, the Dick Vitale Gala has raised more than $15 million for pediatric cancer research.

“I am so excited about this year’s gala, as our three honored guests have all been dedicated to helping increase awareness of, and raising dollars to fight against, childhood cancer. Each year, we are so proud of the many celebrities who gather, and in many cases, donate major dollars in helping us attain our goal,” said Vitale.  “I am hoping and praying that this year, with the efforts of everyone involved, we will set a new record, breaking last year’s gala total of $2.3 million.”

With his contagious spirit and unwavering commitment to the fight against pediatric cancer, Vitale continues to draw celebrities and hundreds of supporters to the Sarasota event each year.  Honoring Ryan, Roberts and Meyer, this year’s gala is expected to attract another sell-out crowd.

Last year, Ryan coached the Wisconsin Badgers to a school-record 36 wins and to a berth in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship game.  Retiring in December, Ryan regularly participates in fundraising and cancer research related events.  Roberts inspired the nation as she bravely shared her personal battle with the rare blood disorder myelodysplastic syndrome, or MDS, shortly after defeating breast cancer.  A member of The V Foundation’s Board of Directors, Roberts has always been a passionate cancer research advocate, preceding her personal diagnosis.  Regarded as one of the best college football coaches today, Meyer led his Ohio State Buckeyes to an impressive Fiesta Bowl victory on New Year’s Day. He has been an active pediatric cancer research supporter over the years.

“Children are our hearts and our souls.  They are our future.  When a child is diagnosed with cancer, our hearts and souls cry out.   The promise of the future is rattled.  Everything in us says, ‘This is just wrong!’,” said Susan Braun, CEO of The V Foundation.  “Dick Vitale has led the charge in battling this terrible disease in children.  He has inspired hope in all of us.  His gala is a tribute to all who follow that lead and are on the team that will end cancer in children.”

One of The V Foundation’s annual signature events, the Dick Vitale Gala will kickoff May 13 with a “Celebrity Meet & Greet Private Pre-Party” at 6:30 p.m. and include live entertainment.  Tickets and sponsorship opportunities are now available.  Corporate and presenting sponsors will receive invitations to a private reception at the Vitale’s home on May 14.

The gala will host a raffle drawing for a 2016 Mercedes-Benz E400A.  Only 1,500 raffle tickets are available to win the brand new, customized convertible, valued at $62,275.  Raffle tickets are available for a suggested $100 minimum donation.
