March Initiatives Highlight The V Foundation’s Nationwide Partnerships in Fight Against Cancer
(Cary, NC, Monday, March 7, 2016) – The V Foundation for Cancer Research, one of the nation’s leading cancer research funding organizations, is pleased to announce its campaigns taking place this month during championship basketball season. The V Foundation and its long-standing partners are once again offering supporters numerous ways to get involved and contribute to the fight against cancer. With 100% of all direct cash donations awarded to cutting-edge cancer research, The V Foundation has funded more than $150 million in research grants to the nation’s most promising cancer investigators to date.
“March is a time of high energy for all of us at The V Foundation. And it reflects the high energy that we are experiencing among the grants we are funding, because there is so much progress in the world of cancer research!” said Susan Braun, CEO of The V Foundation. “We ask everyone to join us as we commit to never give up – until cancer is no more.”
In its sixth year of fundraising for The V Foundation, Constellation Brands Beer Division will continue its “Each Corona Gets Us Closer to a Cure” initiative from March 1 to April 4. Constellation Brands will make a donation to The V Foundation with each purchased case of Corona Extra or Corona Light through its distributor network, retailers and other businesses. Constellation Beer has raised more than $7.2 million for The V Foundation since 2010. In 2015, Constellation Brands recorded its most successful fundraising year to date and the largest annual donation in its partnership with The V Foundation, raising more than $1 million to fund cancer research.
The wine division of Constellation, Constellation Wines, will also make a $40,000 donation to The V Foundation and include signage promoting its support on its top-selling Woodbridge wines throughout March.
Guests at 57 of Apple Gold Group’s Applebee’s restaurants across North Carolina, Kentucky and Indiana are invited to participate in the 10th annual March Hoops Fundraiser from March 3 to April 4. Last year’s hoops promotion raised over $164,000 for The V Foundation, driving Apple Gold Group’s total fundraising efforts over $1.2 million since 2006. This year, Apple Gold Group is aiming to build upon its success, as it celebrates a decade of supporting The V Foundation.
Named for the late Jim Valvano, legendary North Carolina State basketball coach and ESPN commentator, The V Foundation funds all types of cancer research at institutes across the country. In the spirit of NC State and Jim Valvano’s 1983 NCAA National Championship run, corporate sponsors and individual donors come together each March to celebrate The V Foundation’s continuing work to end cancer. The V Foundation identifies and funds the best research projects through a competitive awards process vetted by a Scientific Advisory Committee, comprised of the nation’s top scientists.
