Team V Inspires Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh Marathon, 1/2 Marathon & 5K Participants to Run 4 More
The V Foundation for Cancer Research, one of the nation’s leading cancer research funding organizations, is excited to be the featured charity of the 2016 Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh Marathon, ½ Marathon & 5K, presented by WRAL, which will take place on April 9 and 10 in downtown Raleigh, N.C. From first-time participants to accomplished runners, all are welcome to join Team V, The V Foundation’s official endurance training and fundraising team. Net proceeds of Team V will be awarded to cancer research and related programs. Team V has raised more than $500,000 for cancer research as a featured charity of Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh for the past two years.
“Each Team V member is a part of progress in ending cancer,” said Susan Braun, CEO of The V Foundation. “We are so proud to be on our home turf in Raleigh with the Rock ‘n’ Roll races, to spread the word, run toward the goal and fulfill our mission.”
New this year, Team V members are eligible to participate in the 5K and Remix Challenge (racing in Saturday’s 5K and a Sunday distance race), offering participants the chance to win four medals throughout race weekend. Those who run in the 5K and raise $100 or more for The V Foundation will receive a Team V shirt and training plan. Full and half marathon Team V participants will enjoy many VIP amenities leading up to and during the event, including free entry into the full marathon or half marathon; training and race-day gear; access to an exclusive pre- and post-race hospitality tent with private bathrooms; and personalized fundraising support. Members will also receive individual training encouragement from two Team V coaches, including certified fitness instructor Larissa Muchnick, who returns as a Team V coach for the third consecutive year. Group runs will regularly take place throughout the Triangle area leading up to the event.
“As one of the nation’s leading cancer research funding organizations, The V Foundation is a great cause and each Team V member comes with an inspiring story on why they run,” said Katie Holmes, event manager. “We’re proud to continue our partnership for a third year and know all marathon runners embody Jim Valvano’s famous words, ‘Don’t Give Up . . . Don’t Ever Give Up,’ to reach the finish line.”
Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh Marathon & ½ Marathon offers an entertaining, fun atmosphere for runners and walkers of all abilities. Local, live bands and cheer teams will mark each mile of the race course, providing entertainment and motivation for participants and spectators. Upon completing the 26.2 mile, 13.1 mile or 5K distance, runners will gather with friends and family at the finish line festival and post-race concert featuring a major headliner.
