Teaming with Lilly Oncology for Victory Over Cancer

Once again this year, our friends at Lilly Oncology are a sponsor of the ESPN Sports Humanitarian Awards, which benefit the V Foundation. At first this may seem like an unusual pairing — a world leader in cancer medicine and a world leader in sports media. But here is what unites them.

Legendary sports anchor Stuart Scott lost his life to cancer three years ago. One of Stu’s deep concerns was disparities in cancer incidence, mortality, and care access. And that is a deep concern for Lilly Oncology as well. The V Foundation created the Stu Scott Fund to address these disparities by funding research that looks at biological bases for differences in cancer outcomes among ethnic minorities, and also to support young minority scientists just embarking on their cancer research careers. ESPN and Lilly were the first to stand up and help — to share with us this passion for inclusive research with clear aims to fight disparities.

With such strong partners and Stu’s incredible legacy, we know we are going to hit our goals and to change the face of cancer for ALL people. We offer abundant gratitude to Lilly and all of its employees who fight cancer every day and to ESPN, a company strong and wise and tireless in supporting this cause that sets them apart from all others.
