The V Foundation is dedicated to awarding 100% of direct donations to cancer research and programs. We do not collect a fee or hold a percentage from these donations to support our ongoing operations. We instead rely on a generous endowment fund to cover our operating expenses. This frees us to concentrate on funding more cancer research grants.
What is an endowment?
An endowment is a pool of assets—a portion of which is made available for ongoing operations and other specified purposes annually. The remaining assets and investment returns are retained in the endowment to provide for growth of the endowment over time. Our endowment is categorized as a “board designated” endowment, which is different from a donor endowment that may specify research.
The V Foundation has grown significantly as it has become a more central organization in the cancer research world. While this growth is a good thing, we must ensure that our endowment will be able to cover our ongoing expenses in the future.
A robust endowment will provide us with financial stability and allow our board to “think outside the box” when considering exciting new cancer research opportunities. And during stronger economic periods, an endowment can provide funding to expand our grant support – our ultimate goal.
Why contribute to the V Foundation endowment?
Simply put, it is to help carry out our mission forever! It is visionary – visionary in that we are asking our donors to provide money now that will impact cancer research and save more lives for years to come.
Funding the V Foundation endowment with gifts (outrights or bequests) demonstrates you believe in our mission and recognize that cancer research is a long-term investment. Your gift to the endowment will keep 100% of direct donations for our cancer research mission.
Are endowed research funds a viable strategy for your philanthropic goals?
The V Foundation has several endowed research funds, and contributing to an endowed research fund is a perfect way to create a lasting legacy by you, your family or your business. An endowed research fund generates an annual gift in your name to support cancer research in perpetuity. Also, the Board of The V Foundation is required to assure that the endowment fund you create fulfills your charitable goals.
If the purpose of your endowment ever becomes impractical, illegal, obsolete or incapable of fulfillment, the V Foundation will modify the endowment as closely as possible to meet your charitable desires. This assures you that your philanthropy will always remain relevant – now and in the future.
