“The inaugural Capital Epicurean brought together an extraordinary community of supporters who share a commitment to changing the future of cancer,” said Brandi Williams Broome, CEO of the V Foundation. “What made this event so special was the powerful combination of generosity, purpose, and urgency. Every dollar raised helps fuel innovative cancer research and supports the scientists working to deliver better treatments, better outcomes, and more hope for patients and families everywhere. We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped make this inaugural event such a meaningful success.”
Opening the event, the Conversations for a Cure Luncheon at the Four Seasons Hotel spotlighted the vital impact of V Foundation-funded science. Distinguished cancer researchers at Johns Hopkins University and V Foundation grantees Jamie Spangler, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, and Srinivasan “Vasan” Yegnasubramanian, M.D., Ph.D., Professor of Oncology, Pathology, and Radiation Oncology, presented their latest findings, illustrating how ongoing philanthropic investment is accelerating lifesaving innovations for patients.
The event finale, the Gala & Auction at the historic Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium was hosted by American Record Holder in the high jump, 4-time Olympian, 2012 Olympic bronze medalist, 3-Time World Championship medalist, and 12-time US National Champion Chaunté Lowe. The elegant evening featured a thrilling live auction with premier packages, led by standout lots An Exclusive Culinary Evening at the National Restaurant Association, An Afternoon on the Potomac: Water, Wine & the Washington Skyline, and Bordeaux Unveiled: A Bespoke Wine Journey Through the Vineyards. The transformative generosity continued through the powerful Fund-A-Need paddle raise. Together, supporters raised a remarkable $720,000 for critical cancer research.
The V Foundation for Cancer Research has awarded over $21 million across 86 cancer research grants in the greater Washington, D.C. area. Those grantees, throughout their careers, have gone on to be connected to 58 clinical trials and receive an additional 430 grants totaling $1.6 billion in cancer research funding.
Overall, the V Foundation for Cancer Research has funded over $500 million in game-changing cancer research grants in North America through a competitive process strictly supervised by a world-class Scientific Advisory Committee. 100% of direct donations go toward cancer research thanks to an endowment covering operating expenses.
