Retired President and Chief Executive Officer

Steve Bornstein is a leading sports media and entertainment executive with 40 years’ experience in developing, launching, and cultivating brands which leave a permanent mark on a global scale.

In 1980, Mr. Bornstein joined the programming department at ESPN – then in its infancy. Over the next decade, Mr. Bornstein would rise to become ESPN’s youngest President and Chief Executive Officer (1990) as his programming acumen, innovation, and marketing prowess led to significant network development and brand extensions including the launches of ESPN2, ESPNEWS, ESPN Classic, ESPN Radio, the Internet’s first sports website, ESPN.com., the ESPYs and the X-Games

Following his success at ESPN, Mr. Bornstein worked at the National Football League, serving as the President and Chief Executive Officer of NFL Network and as the NFL’s Executive Vice President of Media. While at the NFL, Mr. Bornstein was responsible for building NFL Media into a globally recognized collection of League-owned and operated media assets, including the launch of NFL Network in 2003, and the development and launch of additional media properties including NFL.com, the NFL App, NFL RedZone, and NFL Films along with the NFL’s highly visible social media platforms.

Mr. Bornstein’s latest venture saw him join one of the world’s leading gaming and interactive entertainment companies, Activision Blizzard, Inc. in 2015 to build out a new media and eSports division. Serving as the division’s Chairman, Mr. Bornstein has helped to develop a world-leading eSports ecosystem and in the process create new ways to deliver a best-in-class fan experience across games, platforms and geographies.

Mr. Bornstein currently serves on the Board of Directors of The V Foundation for Cancer Research, one of the nation’s leading cancer research funding organizations, which he founded in 1993.He is on the Board of Hudl, a company pioneering performance analysis technology, that is currently helping more than 200k teams in 40+ global sports prepare for and stay ahead of the competition.

Currently, Mr. Bornstein is the President of the North American division of Genius Sports, the official data, technology, and broadcast partner that powers the global ecosystem connecting sports, betting and media.  Genius is a trusted partner to over 400 sports organizations, and their technology is used in over 150 countries worldwide, creating highly immersive products that enrich fan experiences for the entire sports industry.

Mr. Bornstein received a Bachelor of Science degree in film from the University of Wisconsin.
