Key Research Initiatives

Motivated by his own battle with cancer, Jim Valvano understood the urgent need for breakthroughs. The V Foundation invests in cutting-edge cancer research, empowering leading scientists and rising stars to push boundaries and drive lifesaving discoveries.

Our Expansive Research Portfolio

We identify areas of need in the cancer research landscape and step up to make our mark for populations that are underserved.

  • A small fraction of the National Cancer Institute budget is dedicated to childhood cancer. We’ve awarded over $107.4 million in pediatric cancer research grants.
  • Cancer does not impact all people groups equally, and different perspectives make us stronger. We are One Team, Together.
  • One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetimes. We are advancing women’s health cancer research while empowering women scientists to lead innovative research.

Researchers in these fields are exceptionally bright with brilliant ideas for immense breakthroughs but often overlooked for governmental funding. We are proud to invest in most-deserving scientists in these spaces. Together, we are accelerating Victory Over Cancer®.
