New York, N.Y., (September 25, 2026) – The V Foundation for Cancer Research is proud to announce the upcoming 6th Annual V Foundation for Cancer Research Boo-Yah on December 8-9, 2026. This event funds research grants through the V Foundation’s Stuart Scott Memorial Cancer Research Fund to advance equity in cancer research, outcomes and care. Over $22.1 million has been awarded across 64 grant awards to exceptional scientists since the fund’s establishment in 2015.
This year’s Gala will honor NBA Champion and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Alonzo Mourning with the Stuart Scott IMPACT Award. A dominant force in basketball, Mourning has made an equally powerful impact off the court. Through his philanthropy and leadership, including founding the Overton Youth Center, he has raised millions to support social, educational, health, and economic advancement initiatives for individuals and families in marginalized communities. As a cancer survivor, he is a vocal advocate for early detection and the urgency of investing in cancer research to improve outcomes for patients of all backgrounds.
Mourning’s commitment to creating meaningful change embodies the spirit of Stuart Scott, leaders in the sports community who have harnessed their platforms to inspire others and advance vital missions.

Stuart was someone who understood that impact goes much further than professional accolades; it’s about making a meaningful difference for others,” said Mourning. “As a cancer survivor, I believe whole-heartedly in the V Foundation’s mission to advance research and improve treatment options, especially for underserved populations. This high-energy doubleheader, held in honor of legendary coach and V Foundation founder Jim Valvano, brings together four powerhouse men’s college basketball teams as part of ESPN’s V Week. This year’s matchups are Georgia vs. Duke and Houston vs. Alabama.

Conversations for a Cure at Hearst Tower. Guests hear directly from researchers whose groundbreaking work is funded by the V Foundation’s Stuart Scott Memorial Cancer Research Fund. As they share the discoveries driving progress in cancer research and the real-world impact on patients and families, attendees will gain a unique, behind-the-scenes look at the innovations shaping the future of cancer care.
Boo-Yah Gala & Auction and After-Party at Gotham Hall, hosted by ESPN’s Michael Eaves and Rich Eisen. The Gala & Auction will feature the presentation of the Stuart Scott IMPACT Award to NBA Legend and Hall of Famer Alonzo Mourning. The pinnacle event includes gourmet food selections, Northern California’s best wines, and a lively auction. Attendees will be supporting cutting-edge cancer research with every paddle raised.
