While BRCA gene mutations were first noted to cause higher rates of breast and ovarian cancer and remain prominently linked to those cancers, research has shown they can trigger a variety of cancers throughout the body, in men and women.

There’s not a moment to lose in understanding BRCA mutations. They are a promising area of research for scientists, and understanding the genetic mechanisms of these cancers could help those studying other cancers. More funding is critical.
