Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) Football Run

This event unites two long-time rivals, Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia, in a shared mission that rises above competition. Each year, we put rivalry aside and join forces to raise funds and awareness for cancer research. This year, the run begins at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virginia, where the FIJI Rho Alpha chapter carries the official VT/UVA game ball toward Scott Stadium in Charlottesville — the site of the annual football game. Our brothers at Virginia Tech run the first half of the journey to Lynchburg, where we meet our UVA counterparts to hand off the ball and continue the run to Charlottesville. What makes this event truly special is its purpose. Partnering with The V Foundation, we honor the enduring legacy of Jimmy Valvano — inspiring perseverance, unity, and hope in the fight against cancer. The funds we raise go directly toward supporting cancer research and awareness, helping advance the foundation’s mission to achieve victory over cancer. Over the years, the Football Run has become more than just a philanthropic tradition — it’s a symbol of collaboration, brotherhood, and commitment to something greater than ourselves. With the help of sponsors, students, and community members, we continue to expand our impact and spread Jimmy V’s timeless message: “Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up.”
