Susanna F. Greer, Ph.D.

Chief Scientific Officer

Susanna F. Greer, Ph.D., is Chief Scientific Officer of the V Foundation for Cancer Research. In this role, she oversees the Foundation’s grant portfolio and works closely with the Foundation’s Scientific Advisory Committee to direct funding to the most promising areas of cancer research. She has advanced the V Foundation’s distinctive brand of high-risk, high-reward, field-shaping science, the type of research that challenges existing boundaries and opens new frontiers, leading initiatives that connect donors and partners with breakthrough discoveries.

Greer received her Ph.D. in Immunology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and completed postdoctoral training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She began her academic career as a Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Cancer Scholar and Professor of Biology at Georgia State University, where she directed the Molecular Basis of Disease Program. Her laboratory defined key signaling pathways in the immune response to cancer and uncovered new epigenetic targets for therapy.

She was later recruited to the American Cancer Society as Senior Scientific Director, where she led the Biochemistry and Immunology of Cancer Research Program. There, she expanded donor and industry partnerships, advanced grantee advocacy, and launched national science communication programs.

Greer is a Fellow of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) and currently serves on its Council and Finance Committee. She has held leadership roles on peer review and advisory committees, served as Editor and lead instructor for national science communication programs, and is a frequent speaker on the role of philanthropy in advancing biomedical research. She currently serves on the Board of the Museum for Medicine and Biomedical Research and the Board of the Foundation for Biomedical Research (FBR), in addition to her roles with ASBMB.
