Dr. Yelena Janjigian is a Professor and Chief of the Gastrointestinal Oncology Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), Dr. Janjigian is at the forefront of research and clinical practice aimed at improving treatment outcomes for patients with GI malignancies. With a BS from the University of California, San Diego, and an MD from New York University School of Medicine, Dr. Janjigian’s journey into medicine began with a strong foundation in both science and clinical practice. She completed her internal medicine residency at New York School of Medicine/Bellevue Hospital and her hematology/oncology fellowship training at MSKCC, where she quickly established herself as a formidable force in the field. Dr. Janjigian is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, reflecting her standing as a leading figure in translational research. Additionally, she serves on the Board of Directors and chairs the Steering Committee for Giants of Cancer Care, further solidifying her influence in the oncology community. Dr. Janjigian’s leadership extends to prominent roles in committees at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the American Association of Cancer Research (AACR), where she contributes her expertise to shaping the future of cancer treatment and research. Her contributions to academia are prolific, with over 140 papers published in esteemed journals such as the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Lancet Oncology, Lancet, and Nature, garnering over 27,000 citations and boasting an H-index of 61. Her research endeavors, generously funded by prestigious entities like the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), have led to significant advancements in understanding the genomic basis of esophagogastric cancer pathogenesis. Dr. Janjigian’s studies have not only elucidated critical molecular characteristics of GI tumors but have also spearheaded the development of novel treatment modalities, setting new standards of care in the field.
