Meet Joshua
I’ve been a sports fan for a while and was aware of the V Foundation and your wonderful work. I recall Jimmy V giving his inspiring speech at the ESPYs and throughout my life I always had empathy for those going through the fight, but never imagined it would hit home as hard as it did.
In July of 2017, my 42-year-old brother was diagnosed with Chondrosarcoma and found out it had metastasized to several other vital organs in his body.
Our family banded together and traveled to a variety of hospitals trying to find something that would stop this disease in its tracks. Unfortunately, just 8 months later in March of 2018, my brother passed away leaving behind a wife and a 12-year-old daughter.
It was shortly after his passing that I first donated to the V Foundation in his honor, as I saw first-hand the value of research and the effect it was having on people fighting for their lives.
Well, in January of 2019, I had my first routine colonoscopy, and a mass was discovered in my rectum. It was malignant. So, within a year, I went from the sidelines to right in the middle of my own battle with cancer. I had surgery in March of 2019. Luckily, all the tissue and surrounding lymph-nodes were clear of any more cancer. It was caught early.
To say that this disease has rocked my family in the last few years would be an understatement, but I am determined to fight on for my own children, family and for myself.
I want to personally thank the V Foundation and all the doctors and researchers that have devoted their lives to rid the world of this disease. I will continue to donate for my brother, for myself and for all the other warriors out there. I know I will live to see the day where this disease is finally defeated!
